It began with a promise…

When Archbishop Christopher J. Coyne assumed the role of Archbishop of Hartford on May 1, 2024, he announced his vision for the Archdiocese and its people. During his first public address as our chief shepherd, Archbishop Coyne announced his intention to bring Catholic education back to the city of Hartford, pointing out that our state capital and center of our Archdiocese had been without any Catholic schools since 2016. After a year of evaluating the location, logistics, and vision of this institution, Archbishop Coyne announced on October 9, 2025, that a building had been secured at 765 Asylum Avenue, and that enrollment of pre-kindergarten through second grade would begin for the Fall 2026 school year.

“The Catholic Academy of Hartford is a physical and spiritual manifestation of a great revival in our time. So much has been said in recent years about declines in faith, but the opening of this school is representative of renewal, revival, and a great reversal of the downward trends we experienced before and during Covid. Mass attendance is up, the number of men and women discerning vocations to the priesthood and religious life is up, and most germane to today’s announcement, Catholic school enrollment is up. With the wind in our sails, the timing was right for the Archdiocese of Hartford to make a generational contribution to the city of Hartford for the education of its youth.”
